Childcare Resources

The two most common childcare alternative payment programs we work with are Crystal Stairs and Drew Child Development Corporation. Below we’ve listed a summary of their requirements and how to apply.

We will update the information as policies change, but please do your due diligence and visit the respective websites as this is a summary of the information. We do not represent Crystal Stairs, Drew Child Development Corporation or any other like program.

Crystal Stairs has two major programs:

  1. the CalWORKS program
  2. and CAPP

Crystal Stairs CAPP Family Eligibility Requirements:

Families must meet all of the following criteria

  • The children receiving services must live in California
  • The family meets the need criteria
  • The family is eligible based on least one of the following criteria:
    1. Income eligibility: a family’s adjusted monthly income is at or below 70 percent of the state median income, adjusted for family size.
    2. Receiving public cash assistance
    3. The family has a written referral from the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) for Child Protective Services (CPS)
    4. A written At-Risk (of abuse, neglect, or exploitation) referral
    5. The family is homeless. Homelessness MUST be documented

Crystal Stairs CalWORKS Family Eligibility Requirements:

If you’re on cash aid (welfare) at the present time or have been in the last 24 months, you may be eligible for childcare if you are also:

  • working, or
  • attending school or vocational training, or
  • seeking employment

CalWORKS covers children through age 12, and exceptional needs and severely disabled children up to age 21.

Drew Child Development offers a Subsidized Childcare Program.

Drew Child Development Corporation Family Eligibility Requirements:

If you meet any of the following requirements you may be eligible:

  1. You are currently receiving cash aid
  2. If you are not currently receiving cash aid but you have received cash aid within the last 24 months
  3. Low income and have a child residing in your house that us under the age of 13

If you meet requirement 1 Drew Child Development Corporation asks that you call (310) 609-3885 and if you meet requirement 2 or 3 call (310) 638-8108.

The Subsidized Childcare Program services children through age 12, and exceptional needs and severely disabled children up to age 18 (21 in some programs).
